Image Upload issue

We recently moved the installation to a new server and it all works fine except..
image upload.When a new image is uploaded, the main image is saved, but the thumb is not created.

Existing thumbs work ok, permissions are set to 777 on the user folder and subfolder

Also the page sticks at http://imagehoarder.com/upload_images.php even though the main image has been uploaded

To create thumbnails GD is required.
Make sure that you have the GD extension installed with php
